Follow These Handy Hints for an Easy Kitchen Deep Clean

If you basically live in your kitchen (like so many of us do), you know that it’s tough to keep it clean on a day-to-day basis. With after school bites and homework, weekend dinner parties, and midnight snacking, it’s no wonder that this room seems to collect more unwanted clutter, dirt, grit and grime than any other room! Give your favorite space a fresh start, and a deep clean, with these simple tips.cardboard tube on hose for deep clean

Declutter

This is rule #1 for most professional organizers & cleaners for a reason! If you don’t love or use an item, why do you have it? Real estate in most household kitchens is significantly limited, so ditch the clutter and free up some space. Open knickknack free spaces, like your counter tops, table tops and on top of your fridge, will make them appear cleaner; plus you won’t have to dust as many items!

Pro Tip: Be sure to make use of your walls. This empty canvas is usually underutilized; leverage cork boards, magnet strips, or chalk boards to showcase good grades, favorite recipes, and To Do lists.

Get a Deeper Clean

You can really deep clean your kitchen’s hard-to-reach spaces (like under your fridge or between your stove and counters) by taping a paper towel tube (with or without decorations) to the end of the hose attachment on your vacuum. You can flatten the end of the tube to fit in the hard to reach corners and wedges that your vacuum tools can’t access otherwise.

Common to any kitchen, the combination of cooking grease, steam, and dust creates a sticky residue on surfaces like the walls, your range hood, and cabinets. Make the space sparkle by washing them with a sponge dipped in undiluted white vinegar. Use another sponge soaked in water to rinse, then wipe dry with a clean rag. For a less pungent kitchen cleaner, mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a squirt of liquid dish soap in a plastic spray bottle. Then add water to fill the bottle. Shake well.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to wipe down the top of your fridge!

Spend Some Time on Your Appliances

Odds are, the inside of your microwave is a mess. We’re all guilty of heating up that bowl of pasta without a cover once in a while, and the aftermath always shows. Put the power of steam to work by mixing ½ cup each of white distilled vinegar and water in a glass bowl. Bring it to a rolling boil inside your microwave, then wipe out the loosened food.
